The Drum Aisle is a key circulation and gathering space within the Kirk, providing access to various areas of the building and serving as an important point of access for visitors. At present, however, the space lacks a functioning heating system and has inadequate lighting. These issues limit comfort and usability, particularly during colder months and evening events.
To improve this, it is proposed to install an efficient heating system using infrared heating panels, providing a sustainable and effective source of warmth throughout the space. In addition, the existing lighting will be upgraded to create a brighter, safer and more inviting atmosphere for all users of the Kirk.
The Drum Aisle has also been affected by historic and ongoing water ingress, which has caused damage to sections of the internal stonework. Repairs will therefore be undertaken to address these issues and protect the fabric of the building for the future. Once all repair works have been completed, the area will be fully redecorated, revitalising the space.
